Women’s Experiences for the Promotion of Social Peace
“I worked in the Women’s Affairs office for several years, as part of a diverse team of active women in the field of combating violence,” says Khadija, one of the workers in women-supportive initiatives. This team assists women who suffer from violence and vulnerability, aiming to empower them to overcome these challenges peacefully.
As part of this initiative, they responded to an invitation from a friend and hosted her in a gathering of women to discuss non-violence and social peace. “Several women attended the session, where issues of non-violence, building self-confidence, and developing life skills for women were discussed.”
Khadija adds, “The attending women expressed their general experiences of violence, and one participant shared her personal story of suffering from verbal abuse due to her choice of working in the media. Despite societal non-acceptance of her work as a woman in this field, she succeeded, thanks to the support of her husband, father, and the Women’s Affairs office team, in achieving significant success and overcoming challenges.
Khadija also holds a position as a member of the Women’s Affairs office, where she shared many stories reflecting the challenges they faced in their work. “We helped a woman facing violence from her husband, provided psychological support, and advised her husband on dealing with her in a proper manner through several sessions, in line with the religious guidance recommended by our Prophet, peace be upon him. We succeeded in correcting and improving their situation.”
They also organized awareness sessions for women about the types of violence and its psychological, physical, and social impact on individuals. Women shared their personal experiences, exchanged expertise, and devised solutions to combat the violence they faced. Over time, these women gained confidence and began applying the skills they learned in their daily lives, making their lives more peaceful and independent. Some started breaking free from abusive relationships, building a new life for themselves and their children.
Women’s initiatives that aim to promote non-violence play a crucial role in community awareness, empowering women, achieving gender equality and justice, contributing to building a more just society that respects human rights.
