The resilience of women in Hauran
The resilience of women in Hauran
Umm Mondhir Natour – Tafas
The role of women was once confined to caring for the home, raising children, and tending to the fields. However, today, it is no longer limited to that but has become more effective in all areas. Women are not just half of society; rather, the entire society depends on the stability, awareness, and strength of women.
In Hauran, women have evolved and increased their effectiveness with the development of society. Now, they stand alongside men in all aspects of life – in schools, hospitals, and civil institutions. They contribute their work with the same efficiency, in addition to their role in raising their children. Women in Hauran have lived under harsh and challenging conditions, yet they managed to rise, demonstrating strength and unwavering determination in the face of surrounding circumstances.
Women in Hauran possess exceptional adaptability and innovation. They can turn any adversity into an opportunity for development and growth, turning weakness into strength. They have the ability to see the future clearly and continually work towards achieving their dreams and goals.
Education holds a significant place among Hauran’s women. They realize that through education, they can achieve their goals. They have worked diligently to spread awareness and knowledge in their society, making them a pivotal element in achieving development and prosperity. Additionally, many of them possess talents and skills, evident in their success in business, politics, and freelance work. They also participate in charitable organizations to assist the vulnerable and marginalized in society.
In recent events in the region, the role of women has become even more prominent due to their ability to move easily between villages and cities. They bear the responsibility of providing for many families after the provider, whether a husband or father, is lost. Thus, they become both the mother and father, the support for their homes and children.
Hauran’s women have written many legendary stories. Widows who embraced their children, working tirelessly throughout the day to put a decent meal in the mouths of their orphaned children. Wives with husbands or mothers with sick sons who run for their treatment and healing, providing care without complaint. Thousands of women who lost their husbands to forced disappearances, yet maintained their families and children despite harassment and repeated communications from unfamiliar numbers.
Strength is not limited to a specific gender; it is a quality that distinguishes humans who can overcome difficulties. Women in Hauran have become inspirations with the strength they possess, having shaken off the dust of customs and traditions, sculpted their arms, and supported the pillars of a society greatly undermined by war.”
