The Impact of Violence on Education in Our Society
By Sham Al-Mohammad – Daraa
Education deeply influences the shaping of violence in societies, as the development of the educational system affects the upcoming generation. This issue sparks widespread debate about child upbringing and education.
Discussions with children were conducted to understand the impact of violence on their mental health. One child spoke about the impact of violence, saying, “When I see children in Gaza dying brutally at the hands of Israeli occupation, I feel very sad because they are young children like me.”
Through the narrative of this child, we can see how the pressures of violence have grown, disrupting the identities of these young children. These pressures reflect the negative energy they have gained from witnessing years of war-related violence, killing, and destruction in Syria. Some have suffered the loss of loved ones, while others have been left orphaned. For this reason, we must be part of protecting these children and shed light on their concerns. We should transform their negative outlook into a positive one by guiding and preparing them for a better and safer life.
It is our duty, as young people, to shape their future and create suitable opportunities for them to live in an environment that enables them to grow and develop this society to become better. We must contribute and assist in raising their awareness because our children are our future and a key element on which society relies.
The crucial role of education in addressing violence and promoting a culture of peace is revealed. Its significant importance lies in building an understanding and tolerant society by directing the youth toward positive thinking and developing communication skills. By doing so, we reinforce a peaceful culture and invest in a future that is more peaceful and stable.
This process cultivates a generation of young people with values of respect, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence, contributing to achieving lasting positive change in society. Although it requires time and effort, it undoubtedly deserves every effort expended.
