School Bullying: When the School becomes a Venue for Violence Spread

“Schools” are a fertile environment for the phenomenon of bullying, especially with the presence of students from different backgrounds and families who share the same seats and classrooms. This has become a threat to the psychological well-being of students and, consequently, the smooth progress of the educational process.
“Bullying” refers to the term colloquially as a harmful and negative behavior by an individual or a group towards another individual or group, with the aim of causing psychological or physical harm.
Bullying incites a culture of human violence and can occur anywhere and with anyone. For example, in schools, when bullying incidents occur, there are those who stand by the bully, encouraging and supporting them. There are also those who stand by the victim, providing support. Additionally, there are those who remain neutral, merely observing without intervening between the bully and the victim.
One of the most important reasons for the spread of this phenomenon is the prevalence of violence in society. Children resort to engaging in violent games, whether electronically or with others. Family dynamics also play a crucial role, as family issues and upbringing in a dysfunctional family can lead to improper upbringing and neglect of children. Jealousy of the victim’s superiority can also be one of the reasons.
These incidents negatively impact the individual and society. They may result in health disorders, with victims seeking isolation and solitude due to rejection. Psychological problems such as depression may arise, reaching the point of suicide or an inability to achieve academic success.
The responsibility to combat this phenomenon lies with parents in collaboration with the school. This includes raising awareness among students in schools about bullying, its forms, and its effects. Encouraging children to adopt positive behaviors, providing psychological support to the affected individuals, and offering effective assistance are essential. Conducting individual sessions with children involved in bullying without blaming, criticizing, or abusing them, and regularly following up with their parents, is fundamental in addressing the problem.
Narrating short stories and tales is an effective way to guide and modify behavior, training children to respect themselves and love others. Controlling the behavior of teachers in schools reflects on the behavior of children.
As for the preventive plan to protect children from bullying, it is imperative for parents and the school to support them with love, strengthen their personalities, build their self-confidence, listen to their complaints, and monitor them in school if they experience any form of bullying.
