How was the modernization of the school in Sadd, Daraa restored?
Abu Tareq Al-Kurdi – Daraa Al-Balad
The restoration process is an attempt to preserve buildings in the face of external conditions such as hurricanes, earthquakes, or other circumstances like building decay or wars. Due to the armed conflicts in Syria, many residential and governmental buildings, including schools, universities, and institutes, were damaged. This, in turn, led to the deterioration of the country’s economy, resulting in the closure of all the damaged schools.
Due to the escalation of the war in the areas of Daraa Al-Balad and the Sadd Road, the vast majority of schools in these neighborhoods were significantly affected, either rendering them completely non-operational or limiting the damage to the closure of some classrooms. Additionally, water and electricity extensions were disrupted, and all educational materials inside were lost.
One of the partially non-operational schools was the Modern Sadd School located on the Sadd Road in Daraa. Most of its classrooms were out of service, and there were also disruptions in water, sanitation, electricity, and the destruction of water tanks.
Unable to cover all this destruction, and with no alternative school available, the local community consisting of the neighborhood residents decided to renovate the school. The community held a meeting, agreed to collect a specific amount of money, and initiated the restoration of the Modern Sadd School. This involved water and sanitation extensions, the installation of solar panels, and providing some educational materials that were not available in the Directorate of Education.
During the current academic year 2023/2024, students are being received, and the teaching process is being conducted efficiently and comprehensively using advanced educational tools, providing the necessary learning resources.
The concept of restoration here is not limited to rebuilding the destroyed structures but goes beyond to include building a better future for the upcoming generations. The rehabilitation of the school is not just repairing walls; it is an investment in education and the future of the youth, enabling them to access complete and effective learning opportunities.
The decision made by the local community to renovate the school serves as a model of unity and solidarity. It signifies that peaceful and constructive solutions can arise from the hearts of individuals seeking positive change despite the challenges of difficult circumstances.
